Project 365

This is a project I have been contemplating for a couple of years, but have put it off thinking I wouldn't be able to take the time.  Now that I've finished my Master's degree, and things have settled down, I have finally taken the plunge.  My goal is to post my pictures weekly here on the blog and everyday on instagram.  The idea is to shoot everyday, capture everyday beauty and life, and push myself creatively.  I am following prompts from the CM Glimpse Instagram project.  There is a prompt everyday, and we share and encourage one another along the way.  Here are this week's photos - I started Jan. 1st.

Prompts:
Upper righthand: winter, top middle: unmade bed, upper left: extra, middle long: color, lower left: ambiguous, middle bottom: brand new (bracelets), right long:  extra

In addition, here are some photos I took as I was experimenting for the prompts.  Today, there is a blanket of fresh snow, and it is beautiful.

Fall in my New Neighborhood

For a while now, I've been making a conscious effort to practice gratitude.  I believe in looking for the good.  I don't always succeed, but I'm trying.  We recently moved, and I absolutely adore our neighborhood.  I love fall - the colors, the crisp air, the feel of a warm coffee cup in my hands, corduroys, boots, scarves, the whole shebang.  I couldn't wait to explore the lake that our house backs up to.  It is riddled with bridges, foliage, picnic benches, a walking path around the entire lake, and lots of interesting nooks and crannies.  This morning, I popped out of bed and my camera and I went on a walk.  The steam was rising off of the lake.  It was so beautiful.  I couldn't help being immensely grateful for my surroundings.  Here are a few of the photos I took.

This is the view from our backyard.  This morning was beautiful - crisp fall air causing steam to rise from the lake.

      A tree canopy

Beautiful leaves

The ripple of a creature stirring in the lake.
 Beautiful light.
A pretty bridge surrounded by fall foliage.

That leads into a wooded area.

Another pretty bridge.  I picture families here getting photos taken.

So picturesque.

 The splendor of fall.
A shaded nook full of plants, stones, a bridge and even a bench to sit and enjoy nature.

Go out and enjoy the beauty around you this week.  Be present.  Be grateful.

Henry is One!

I got the pleasure of taking li'l Henry's one year old pictures a couple of weeks ago at Sedgwick County Park.  He was such a joy to work with, so happy and cooperative.  And I'm not prejudiced because I'm his Nana.  He really is a perfect, sweet li'l guy!

He looks so proud of himself!

Handsome dude!

Such a soft little baby expression.  Love it!

Happy Birthday, Henry!  (Almost)

Newborn Photo Shoot

My friend and co-worker, Pepper, just had a beautiful baby girl.  I took these pictures of the little nugget.  She was precious.  It was the first time I had attempted newborn photography and it was exhausting, but I learned a lot.  McKenzie was cooperative for the most part, but it's hard when we kept  trying to maneuver her into different positions.  Pepper reported that she slept for a 5 hour stretch after I left.  Poor thing!

Enjoy this beautiful day,

Kim

Old Town Family Photos

I took these pictures of my dear friend Cynthia's kiddos.   It was a little chilly, but they were troopers!

Oh my goodness, those eyes.  Lock her in the house and don't let her out!

Sigh.  Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.

 What a handsome guy!

Can I have your autograph?

Cuteness.

What a sweet, sassy beauty she is!

These are three funny, sweet, wonderful, good-looking peoples.

I love this one.  Looking up to big sis.
